ALLIANCE, Ohio – Former University of Mount Union student-athlete and NFL wide receiver Cecil Shorts III hosted a free football clinic at Mount Union Stadium as a way to give back to the local community.
More than 100 boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14 attended the Cleveland native's non-contact youth football camp. Each participant received personalized training from Shorts III along with current former Mount Union football players and coaches, a football camp t-shirt, an autographed item and lunch—all at no cost.
Shorts III worked in conjunction with Brand Name Athletes, LLC, who helped organize the event and provided entertainment, and the New Day New Way Foundation, a non-profit organization developed by former Purple Raider Jonathan Previlon, that provides resources and character development programs for local communities.
The event was the second camp of a three-camp series held by Shorts III, with the next being held on Sunday, July 9 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Prior to departing the Northeast Ohio area, Shorts III is hosting an All-City Community Celebration in Cleveland on Saturday, July 1 from noon to 3 p.m. The celebration will feature food trucks, music, kid zones, and more. There will be no admission fee, but he asks that participants bring school supplies to be donated to Cleveland-area schools.
