WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Mount Union's women's volleyball team went 1-1 Saturday afternoon after a tri-match at Otterbein University.
The Purple Raiders, now 15-4, defeated No. 18 Transylvania in a four set match 25-21, 16-25, 25-17, 25-20, but continued on to lose to No. 12 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) in three straight sets 25-13, 25-20, 25-22.
In match one, Mount Union was led by junior Madelin DiBease (Perry) and sophomore Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) both recording 12 kills, while freshman Katie May (Independence) had 19 assists. Defensively, freshman Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) tallied a team-high 26 digs, while senior Marlee Peck (Homeworth / Marlington) had a season-high seven blocks.
Against No. 12 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.), Mount Union's offense was led by sophomore Chase Filicko (Olmsted Falls / Gilmour Academy) with eight kills and May with 18 assists. Protecting Raider territory was DiBease and freshman Mollie Thomas (Massillon) recording 14 digs each.
The Raiders open up OAC play Friday, Oct. 4 traveling to Otterbein at 7:00 p.m.
